Fiona Staples
iona Staples next big thing is SAGA which could be one of the next big things in comics for 2012. To be published by Image Comics in March 2012, it is written by Bryan K Vaughan and illustrated in what may very well be a breakout performance by ACAD alumni Fiona. Check HERE for an interesting preview/review by Warren Ellis discussing the juxtaposition of story telling styles/methods. The book has also created some controversy due to the cover image depicting breast feeding, read about this HERE.
Also check out an interview with Fiona HERE. And finally an article HERE about writer Brian K Vaughan well known for his comic Y: The Last Man and writing for the TV show LOST.

Rick Sealock
pplied Arts Magazine is featuring ACAD grad and former instructor Rick Sealock in a Q&A for their Blast from the Past feature HERE
My favourite: AA: What would you change about this business if you were made Emperor of the Universe? S: My rates: crowns cost a great deal . . . and the robes – well, don't get me started. I would first issue an edict ordering all illustration to be pushed to its creative, conceptual and technical edge. Commissioned illustration is not scary or without the need of art direction. I know it's not a photograph and may be interpreted in a variety of ways, but that is why we are in this profession. Creativity and boundaries – crucial!
